Question 1. The company has introduced a policy that states that employees should refrain from posting non-work-related content, memes and posts on official channles. Allowing people to share personal content and inspirational content in official channels start spamming quickly. Despite the policy being circulated, you observe that a few employees continue to repeatedly flout the policy, which gets the channel to be crowded and unusable.

Which of the below options resonates as a reasonable approach to you?

Please Elaborate your thought and reasonings and it can be different from the below options.
a.  Since it’s a recurring incident, inform the employee on the policy and explain to them why they doing it is harmful to the equipment and iterate the employee’s tendency to repeat with a mild warning towards the intolerance on such flouting of norms. Everybody is sensible and will respond to reasoning. Educating is the key. Implement notices, wall stickers, etc to ensure people are reminded to not do the same.

b. We will not know the effectiveness of a policy if people don’t cooperate. Each individual is different and why they break the norm is for different reasons. Dealing with them individually sounds ideal but impractical. Especially when they are repeating the mistake, they don’t understand the gravity of their action. The only way to make them realize the mistake is to have repercussions for erring. Discipline is the only way to align.
c.   Purpose of a policy is to achieve a goal. A policy cannot be implemented just with people following it. We need to equip the people and invest in infrastructure that enables people to follow the policy. While we can nudge the individuals to follow the rule, we need to make the policy that works by understanding collectively what is making people not follow and see if some infra changes can be made to fix it.

d. If people are not cooperating, it’s most often a problem with the policy. It’s a tendency to look for a policy/rule that ‘bans’ people from doing things and apply authority to enforce the policy. It makes the work environment to be not enjoyable and that adversely affects the productivity. Its better to stick with educating the people than to implement a policy. People don’t like to be policed.
