A Product/technology begins from a mind and the mind is the product of the environment it is in. The mind thinks with what it experiences from its environment. All pleasant and unpleasant interruptions, excitements, chaos, inefficiencies, surprises, and limitations of the environment, find their way into the product/technology by influencing the minds that build them. An organization is the converging environment for such wide variety of minds to come together and contribute their ideas.

Yet every organization underestimates the amount of Facilitation and Organizing that is needed to ensure a favourable environment for Ideas to happen. Starting from interfacing with Legal bodies that allow us to run this organization, to the vendors who help us run this organization with supply and service, till the workplace as the Environment where the organisation is run, every action needs to be managed to be uninterrupted. Communication – thorough & influential, is the foundational skill. Penchant for Systematic thinking and organizing is the accomplishing skill.

The company has introduced a new policy that states that no employee is allowed to carry beverages (tea/coffee etc…) into the laboratory area as there is a risk of spillage and damage to expensive equipment. Despite the policy being circulated, you observe that a few employees continue to bring beverages inside the lab. You are most likely to… 
 a)  Report this behaviour to the reporting manager of the erring employees and ask for the manager to take appropriate action

b) Directly speak with erring employees and educate them of the repercussions if they continue to flout the norms 

c)  Organize an awareness session for all employees on why the policy has been imposed and insinuate during the session that it has been observed that not all are following

The company is in an urgent need for a crucial role and a meeting is gathered with the founders and the concerned team members which includes you as a secretary to the founders' office to shadow the meeting. Few suggestions were arrived at the meeting on how crucial the role is, yet how rare the talent is to figure out, especially since the given role is very unique and even if we found a resource it would incur a heavy investment in getting them aligned to the organization. It has been decided that the team shall start an active lookout for the role and a referral fee will be announced to fill the role. Simultaneously, you are aware of a colleague at the company who may be interested in a similar role. You would.. 
  1. Inform the colleague about the role and the seriousness with which its being sought and ask to apply. This saves the company a lot of effort.

  2. Inform the team about the interactions you have had with this colleague. As they are already part of the organization, they can align much faster.

  3. Inform the team about the colleague and inform the colleague about the opening, so that both are better prepared to meet each other’s requirement.

  1. Call them and ensure that they give a date and see if we can squeeze the day.

  2. It’s a weekend and its inappropriate to disturb someone during the weekend to get a date to a meeting!

  3. They are not responding most probably because they are occupied. Wait till Monday for their response, they are mostly like occupied with something else and disturbing them unnecessarily can cause more harm and might appear desperate.
There is a quarterly update meeting between the founders and the investors of the company coming up in a week’s time. What help would you offer to the founders?
